Constant change is here to stay: Livability and Sue Ryder

: Grahame Darnell, Lisa Hemsley and Helen Trenchard

You’ve probably noticed. The world is changing – and at a pace...

To meet the funding challenge in this shifting world, our organisations are on a journey of change - and we’ll be telling our stories at Fundraising Convention in July.  If you are facing a period of intense change, then come and hear about the different challenges we have faced in our organisations, what we did and what happened as a result.

Livability is a charity that connects people with their communities, tackling social isolation and the barriers that cause this in the lives of disabled and vulnerable people. Sue Ryder provides incredible hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life changing diagnosis.

Both charities are facing mounting pressure with an increasing squeeze on statutory funding and tighter regulatory requirements, whilst meeting the ever-present needs of the people we exist to support. With the backdrop of a tough fundraising market characterised by a sophisticated and demanding donor public, we face a very real challenge.

To help deliver sustainable growth in voluntary income, both organisations are delivering programmes of change to meet fundraising ambitions over the next four years.  Fundraising can and must become a larger element in how we provide services that make a difference. We’ll be talking about how we are making that happen in our organisations.

As fundraisers, we know how to understand people and what makes them tick.  Now is our time. We’re on a journey of culture change, working collaboratively with others to form deeper connections with our supporters and understand how they want to make a difference in the world. We can be key to satisfying their sense of social purpose.

It’s an exciting time for both Livability and Sue Ryder. We’re up for the challenge, and the change ahead. We look forward to sharing our experience at this year’s Institute of Fundraising Convention, speaking openly on what is our personal story of change, what we’re doing, how we’re doing it, the successes, the impact on people and outcomes – warts and all...

We are on a journey of change, and it is here to stay.
