Charity Well

"Passionate, committed, enthusiastic and refreshingly forthright"

Claire is a proud northerner who wears her thoughts on her face, her heart on her sleeve, and loves fundraising.

On graduating in 1997, Claire (unsurprisingly) didn’t get the Halle Fundraiser job she interviewed for. But they saw "something" in her and created a trainee role with two career-springboarding elements: an amazing boss; and a culture (and budget) supporting staff development.

It was here Claire developed her love of selling a “WHY” and of using beneficiary stories to build relationships.

Six years later, via Opera North and the Imperial War Museum North Public Appeal, Claire transitioned to a freelance career, where she's worked since, helping smaller, less infrastructured charities achieve amazing things.

In 2016, Claire was diagnosed with breast cancer and was forced to temporarily stop work and experience life as a beneficiary.

Now recovered, and determined to put this new perspective to good use, Claire works as a Consultant and Coach, supporting those in the Fundraising Head/Director roles she used to thrive in herself.

In 2019, Claire established Charity Well, an initiative championing the Wellbeing of those working (and all-too-frequently, struggling) in the charity sector
